About Lykos

An explorer at heart with a voracious appetite for knowledge, I’ve been online since the early aughts, sailing the World Wide Web at 56k baud. While I wouldn’t trade my fiber internet for anything, I feel coming of age during this particular period of the internet is an important part of how I see the world. I’ve always found myself straddling tradition and modernism, analog and digital, obscurity and renown.

Most people who have met me would describe me as nostalgic, but perhaps a more appropriate term is anemoia — nostalgia for a time I’ve never lived through. You’ll often find me appreciating the past at a museum or settling into a booth at a classic American diner.

My appreciation for this analog-digital divide is perhaps most evident in my hobbies of music, photography, and pinball. I’ve been collecting vinyl since I was thirteen, and my taste is best summed up as “anything with a synthesizer.” I’m particularly fond of unearthing forgotten dance music from the ’80s and ’90s, which I enjoy sharing at local clubs and conventions through DJing. Photography has taken something of a back seat over the years, but I still enjoy getting behind a camera, whether shooting digital or film. Pinball, meanwhile, is a particularly wonderful marriage of analog and digital: controlling a computer with nothing more than a ball and two flippers.

I started building websites on Freewebs in 2005, encouraged by middle school friends as we were first finding our way around the internet. Originally an extension of my childhood obsession with video games, the site was a little bit of everything: rehosted MIDI files and GameFAQs charts, embedded funny YouTube videos, and even a fictional sci-fi adventure starring my circle of friends at the time.

In 2016, I purchased this domain with hopes of giving the site a new direction and expanding what it could become. There were a few attempts at building galleries to share my photography, but none quite stuck. This is now my third attempt at relaunching the site with a renewed sense of purpose. It’s been around for nearly as long as I’ve been exploring the internet, and there’s something pretty special about having a little corner of the web that has grown alongside me.

I am a furry lifestyler, and my character is an inseparable part of who I am. I’ve called Massachusetts home since 2000.
